New to SQL databases - trying to install on my PC to work locally and go through a course

I have installed SQL Server Express (SqlLocalDB.msi) and SQL Management Studio (SQLManaementStudio_64_ENU) but can't seem to get to a place where I can create a database. I have a .BAK file that is a database I want to restore/recover in order to check and query against.
