We have been using SQL Server 2008 Express and recently installed SQL Server 2012 (Not Express version). In 2008 I was able to make back ups to a flash drive and restore the data base from that device. After 2012 was installed I thought I would be able to restore the 2012 database with the backup of 2008 Express. No dice. I have followed all the instructions on restoring 2012, however the back does have a .bak extension. I tried to rename the file adding that extension. No dice. In the restore screen in the upper left it indicates that there is to file to restore from.
Can this been done using backup/restore? or is there something else I should use.
