Our "Prod DB" has reached 20 GB on SQL2005. We have cleaned the main tables which contains big number of data. the mdf file still as 20GB but the good thing when we do a backup i show only 1 GB. I believe this is the correct size after we have cleaned the tables.
I have read few articles about NOT shrinking the mdf files. So we Were thinking of generating scripts of the Prod DB. stop it and rename it (Prod DB old). Than create a new DB with the original name (Prod DB) and restore the backup into it. (1 GB).
But i faced a problem and I need a help.
1) I couldn't get the full script, as some of the SP is encrypted. How can i solve this issue?! Is there is anyway for it?
2) If I do normal backup/restore will it solve the problem and create a new DB as same as the old one?! tables, views, SP, logins, etc?
